Getting Rid of the Washer Odor

When your washer smells really bad, do you know what causes this condition to ensue? This is often the result of soap accumulation on the tub, remnants of water and moisture, chemical mixture and residues left after washing. All of these items will contribute to the odor that your washer brings. There are still many factors involved in the generation of the bad odor on your washer but so far, these are the common things that caused it. The end result would still be the same and it will be the formation of mildew that will make your washer stink.

In too many cases, you will see this happen when you utilize too much soap of your liking. The thing is if you do your laundry only once per week, this is where the problem comes in.

One great recommended solution would be to mix cascade and bleach of equal proportion, which is two cups, into your washing machine filled with hot water and let it spin. After one spin cycle, let the machine with the mixture soak for about 15 minutes so that you can work on the scum. Close the lid of the washer and let the mixture run in the next cycle again until it is completed. Once the cycle completes, load WHITE CLOTHES unless you want your colored to be bleached out.

However, there are times when your washer odor becomes really bad that you need to remove the inner basket first before you can clean up the accumulated debris inside the tank. You will need the special tools so that you can remove the basket off.

One other substance that can cause smell from washing machine is the fabric softener that can build up inside the tank especially under the agitator. You have to remember that many substances can freeze up your agitator and can cause malfunction in your washer.

When towels smell mildew, it is recommended that you include it in the next bleach run or better yet let it soak manually before placing it inside your washer to prevent nasty smell. Always put the right amount of detergent on the drawer to avoid accumulation of suds.
